LEADERSHIP IS NOT A GAME OF THRONE
(I can’t lead if am not at the top)
One misconception people have about leadership is the belief that leadership comes simply from having a position or title. It will interest you to know that you don’t need to possess a position at the top of your department, division, or organization in other to lead. A place at the top will not necessarily make you a leader. The question is who is a leader? A leader is someone who always goes first and have the authority to direct. When we are talking about authority we mean power; and power is the ability to enforce decision and compel obedience among others. Hence: true measure of leadership is influence.
Leadership is a character that requires your ability as a leader to show an exemplary attitude to the audience not the quest to be on the throne and assume the most powerful man/woman on earth.
Its evidenced to all that Nigeria is in a state of recession, researchers has proven that we have gone down to depression because Nigeria is presently exhibiting the characteristics of a country under depression (check online for more info). We can therefore conclude that we are in depression because people we call our leaders are not functioning. They are busy buying cars, jet, lodging in 7stars hotel etc. in fact we don’t have leaders we have rulers; leaders are anointed while rulers are appointed.
Today, I will be sharing with you five levels of leadership this will help you in developing the leadership skills within you. I call it the ‘’R5’’
LEVEL1: RIGHT: people follow you because they have to; here your influence will not exceed beyond your line of your job description.
LEVEL2: RELATIONSHIP: people follow you because they want to. They follow you beyond their stated authority.
LEVEL3: RESULT: this is where success is sensed. They follow you because of what you have done for them.
LEVEL 4: REPRODUCTION: this level goes far beyond result. Note that more commitment is required here.
LEVEL 5: RESPECT: people follow you because of what you represent and who you are.
In conclusion, a place at the top will not automatically make you a leader, a leader is someone that is very projective, and he must certainly have a vision. Remember this; a vision without an action is a day dream an action without a mission is a nightmare
